John O’Farrell takes a pasting for comments made in the 1980s but…

…some Conservatives had far worse to say.  For those of us who attended National Union of Students conferences in the early 80s, who could forget some of the choice stuff that the Federation of Conservative Students used to come out with?  I remember one FCS member coming to the podium and screaming “Hang Nelson Mandela”. And some of these FCS louts went on to become mainstream Conservative politicians – so a little less preaching from the right in the direction of John O’Farrell and his youthful indiscretions if you please.

About The Thatcher Crisis Years

I'm Tony McMahon and I've had two books published set in this time of crisis. "Original Rude Boy", the biography of Neville Staple of The Specials. "No Place To Hide", the biography of 80s boxer Errol Christie. I was very politically active during this period - not on Thatcher's side!

  1. Yes, never let the facts get in the way of a good sound bite?! One of my favourite reads of all time, ‘Till Things Get Better’, biting satire but with a clear historical look at events during the Thatcher Era!
