When the Jam went their separate ways…

February 1983 saw the launch of the Style Council by Paul Weller and the less cool but musically capable Mick Talbot.  As No.1 magazine put it:

“In place of ‘passion’, ‘commitment’ and ‘honesty’ we had ‘cat’, ‘groove’, ‘cappuccino’.”

I don’t have a clue what that meant but it sounds convincing.

The rest of the Jam didn’t have such glittering epilogues.  Rich Buckler didn’t get very far with his combo, Time UK though Bruce Foxton had more success with his single ‘Freak’.

Bit of unrelated trivia – Karen Carpenter died this month aged only 32.
